The design of the Noodle Stand is centered around creating a nostalgic atmosphere for every customer that walks in. Wooden materials are used throughout the restaurant, reminiscent of the small wooden carts that used to sell noodle soup in different corners of Hong Kong. This design choice aims to transport customers back in time and evoke a sense of familiarity.
One of the most distinctive elements of the Noodle Stand is the feature ceiling in the dining area. Inspired by the popularity of wonton, a delicious dish from the menu, the designers have interpreted it as an abstract figure that spreads across the entire restaurant. This unique feature adds a touch of creativity and visual interest to the space.
To further enhance the nostalgic theme, winnow baskets are used around the kitchen area, resembling the wooden carts that used to sell noodle soup. Additionally, the staircase leading customers down to the restaurant is adorned with montaged seasoning sauce labels from both past and present, adding a playful and decorative touch.
The Noodle Stand is made using a combination of metal, wood, glass, plastic laminate, cement, and tile. The materials are carefully chosen to create a warm and inviting ambiance that complements the wooden cart theme.
The restaurant has been designed with an open kitchen area, allowing customers to watch the chefs prepare and cook their food while they dine. This interactive element adds to the overall dining experience and creates a sense of transparency and authenticity.
Located at Shop A, B/F, Thai Kong Building, 482 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, the Noodle Stand was originally a retail shop. The design team faced the challenge of working with a low ceiling, but they creatively overcame this obstacle by creating a half-open ceiling combined with the abstract wonton design, which enhances the height of the interior.
The Noodle Stand is a simple yet unique design that attracts customers from the moment they enter. Neon signage combined with a montage of old-fashioned and traditional Chinese sauce bottle labels guide customers downstairs, creating a nostalgic ambiance that flows throughout the interior. The design has been recognized for its creativity and resourcefulness, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
